Research:

The focus of our research is in line with the current trends in ICT sector in particular data science applications in economic and social life. We are interested in research and development of new methods and services for intelligent data processing and analysis using also cloud and Big data technologies in domains such as Industry 4.0, Internet of things, and ICT for Active and Healthy Ageing.

Our research activities are primarily focused on:

Data analytics – data mining and text mining applications in various domains (prediction, anomaly detection, visualization, data understanding in medicine, meteorology, economy, education, …

Big Data processing – distributed databases, Apache Hadoop technologies, real-time stream processing (Apache Storm, Apache Spark)

Semantic technologies – ontology modelling in various domains, semantic repositories, reasoning, information retrieval

Complex software design and implementation – (micro)service-oriented architectures, web and mobile applications development

Cloud computing – design, deployment and maintenance of cloud infrastructure, hardware and network virtualization


Our research group has many years’ experiences in the fields of data and text mining, data exploration, software design and implementation that we have successfully used in several European and national research and development projects. We also used in these projects our knowledge and experiences with Semantic web and semantic technologies (mainly ontologies in various standards, semantic databases, query languages, etc.) to represent and use information in machine-understandable and interoperable manner.
